What is New York Session?

The US session, roughly 17:00-02:00 PKT — home of major economic data and the powerful London-New York overlap.

The New York session runs roughly 17:00 to 02:00 Pakistan time and brings the world's most market-moving economic releases: US inflation, employment (Non-Farm Payrolls), GDP and Federal Reserve decisions all land during these hours. Because the US dollar sits on one side of every major pair, American data moves the entire forex board at once. The first half of the session overlaps with London — roughly 17:00 to 21:00 PKT — creating the deepest liquidity window of the whole trading day.

The session has two distinct halves. The overlap hours are fast, liquid and rich with opportunity; they frequently either extend London's move or sharply reverse it once US participants take control. After London closes around 21:00 PKT, volume thins noticeably, moves lose follow-through, and late New York can drift or retrace. Many disciplined traders do their best work in the overlap and deliberately stop trading in the quiet final hours rather than forcing setups into fading liquidity.
