What is Trading Session?

The regional blocks of the 24-hour forex day — Asian, London and New York — each with its own volume, volatility and behaviour.

Although the forex market runs 24 hours a day, activity is not evenly spread. The trading day moves through three main regional sessions — Asian (Tokyo), London and New York — as banks and funds in each region come online. Each session has a distinct personality: Asia tends to be quiet and range-bound, London brings the largest volume and the day's decisive moves, and New York adds US data releases and a powerful overlap with London's afternoon.

For traders in Pakistan the schedule is convenient: London runs roughly 12:00 to 21:00 PKT and New York roughly 17:00 to 02:00 PKT, so the most liquid hours of the entire global day — the London-New York overlap around 17:00 to 21:00 PKT — fall in the evening.
